Captain Sean Renard is the man to whom Detectives Nick Burkhardt, Hank Griffin and Sergeant Wu report, as the ranking officer of the Portland Police Department.

 

Unknown by the most, he is the brother of Eric Renard and his mother is a Hexenbiest. Therefore he is a half-Zauberbiest and aware of the Wesen world. He is using Nick as a Grimm for his own advantage as Nick hasn't learned yet where he fits into the world. He protects Nick from all harm but has to make sure no other Grimms are nearby.

Renard is an intelligent police captain, a natural leader, who supports his subordinates. He is good with the press. He is usually on Nick's side and acts like a good policeman.
